“FOR WANT OF A MALE…!” Green Lantern battles the combined might of Star Sapphire and Hector Hammond! Arisia endures terrible abuse while under the mind control of Hector Hammond and Star Sapphire. Meanwhile Hal struggles to escape the villains trap and save his lover from their control.

It appears that Hal Jordan has been betrayed by Arisia and killed in space by Star Sapphire and Hector Hammond. Previously, Hector used his mind control powers to take over Arisia young mind and trick Hal into flying into space with what he thought was a fully charged ring. There he exploded in the vacuum of space leaving a mind controlled Arisia to the whims of Star, whose uses her powers to make Arisia her slave while Hector watches with glee.

Back on Earth, Kilowog tries to broker a peace between warring groups in Nicaragua but is unsuccessful as neither group trust the alien. Ch'p and Salaak visit Dr. Ub'x but Salaak is mysteriously teleported away. On an asteroid John Stewart and his new wife Katma Tui are enjoying their honeymoon.

Back in space, Hal reveals that he is not dead, but instead realized there was trouble afoot and used his ring to make it appear he had died. He then bides his time to attack Star and Hector. The Green Lantern is overpowered by the might of the two villains, but their victory is short lived. The pair start to bicker over who gets to be in charge of the now mind controlled Hal and Arisia. This gives Arisia the chance to break the control and attack Star and save Hal.
